This episode was really good. Answered a lot of questions and of course, posed new ones. I spent some quite some time looking at this one. Found a lot of interesting things. I'll stop wasting your time, here it is:The sign at the motel where Kate stops is a big half husked piece of corn. The license plate on Kate's car is a Nebraskan plate, 7-C153M. She opens the trunk with her right hand. The month or the year on the plate isn't visible. Here is something I found interesting, as Kate opens the trunk; she lifts up the cover for the spare tire. The thing is, the hole in the middle of the cover piece has a hole which completely shows parts of the plates. This hole could raise suspicions if pulled over. Why wouldn't she cover this hole? Took me a while but I got as much as I could on all of the plates. 4 on the right side, 5 on the left side. Some of these were partially covered so it was hard to fully see the numbers and letters. Only thing to remember is E's could be F's and S's can be 6's. Who are these 2 kids? Shannon and Boone? Ages 10 and 8? Is this a cross character reference? If so who are the parent and the 2 kids? As Kate walks to unpaid room, she grabs 2 towels and 2 single serving bottles of shampoo with right hand. Where am going with this right hand, left hand thing? Don't know. No room number is visible. This might be nothing, the camera focuses on the drain, the water isn't draining. There is a good couple of inches of standing water in shower. Flood foreshadowing? Goes from blond to Brunette. Kate approached desk, asks for letter for Joan Hart. Reminder, Ohio plate reads ?The heart of it all' Where is she now? Same hotel? There is a swimming pool out front. Expression she used was fuzzy. ?quest for arrival'. I know I heard it wrong. What does it mean? Letter is held is a shoe box that reads ?Brown Shoe' It is the second letter the clerk looks at when he finds it. Talks of chemo and staying at the hospital. Letter ends with ?Love,' and name can't be seen After back story part, Kate plays with plane with right hand. Right hand good, left hand bad? Just a thought The 5025 decal that was once on it is now gone. Charlie seems very hopeful about getting back to civilization. Thinks record sales spiked do to his ?death'. If they don't succeed will Charlie revert back to his heroin ways? Wrecked plane isn't all that far away. Not for a fix. As Charlie mentions the events leading to their rescue, Kate looks nervous. Introduction to a new character, Dr. Artz He is a Dr. of education. Was a former high school science teacher. Has a white flag on a stick. Symbolic? Everyone talks to him as if he has been around. Makes it seem the Lostaways are actually talking to people outside their group. Artz said if they miss this window, they will have to wait about 3 to 4 months for the monsoon switch He does give away which side of the island they are on. They are on the south side. Need to go north. Time running out to launch. Wears watch on left hand Here are the people pitching in to help build the raft: Jack, Artz, Jin, Hurley, Sawyer, Mike, Walt, and 2 new people. One Asian and One African American. As trade wind discussion goes on, Kate, Charlie and a newbie walk up. Sun standing at a distance I noticed Hurley doesn't really help. He sort of leans on a rail. Listens and takes in everything. Going south would take them to Antarctica. Was this a hint to something? As Kate tries to wiggle her way onto the raft, talking to Mike, Scott/Steve and 2 others walk by. That guy is everywhere. If you listen to the intercom, it says ?Hospital Chaplin to the neuro ICU. Hospital Chapin, please report to the neuro ICU' Where is this hospital? Did Kate walk in as Jack unsuccessfully tried to revive the woman Christian ?killed'? Chaplin being called indicates death Kate asks for Diane Jansen. She is in room 208. Just came up from ICU Can't read cops newspaper. Is Kate in Ohio or Iowa? Kate repositions flowers to her right hand side to cover face from cops. Dr. Tom Brennan parked in isle 3 Kate sits in rear, right side, asks for help Diane/mom is dying of cancer. Tom calls her Katie, indicating deep friendship Back to the raft, Sun approaches Jin and asks if he is really leaving, he answers yes Sayid leading Jack to hatch, Jack doesn't know. Pulls the ?if you don't tell me where we are going, I'll leave' baby routine Locke's idea to be completely open with Jack. Will it help regain Jacks trust? Looks like Locke has already shown Sayid the hatch. Picking up where last episode left off Sawyer calls Mike ?Mickey' as in Mickey Mouse Kate has taken Joanne's visa. Melting the laminate to exchange picture. Very crude way to do it. When asked why is it so charred she could easily blame the crash for the condition of her passport. Sawyer knows Kate is a fugitive, calls her out. Claims her secret is safe. She replies she will get his spot on the raft. Walt is the one who got the water bottle for Mike. Poison doesn't take long to work. As Mike collapses, what is Jin doing? Doesn't seem to help. Odd behavior. Did he not notice him? Stick by him the whole time when he is sick. Even pushes Sawyer when he threatens Mike. Shows loyalty. Walt is worried he had something to do with Mike being sick. What the heck is this kid capable of? Does he think he killed his mom too? Walt gets Kate and Sun in the jungle, when he tells them Mike is sick, camera goes to Sun. she looks surprise/shocked. Kate gets Jack, Sun goes with Walt to help Mike Of course we now know both Kate and Sun were in on it. Kate's idea, Sun did it. Back to the hatch: Took 3 weeks, give or take, to excavate hatch This was a very intricate scene. The 3 big players are all staring at the hatch. Jack and Locke in front and Sayid in the back Sayid doesn't say anything at first. Just watches the two of them talk. Just like a former intelligence officer would. Jack calls Locke a liar, Locke doesn't stoop to name calling. Tells Jack he used discretion. Brings up the hidden guns. Jack sort of concedes. Asks how to open it. Discretion is now the new excuse for Locke and Jack not to tell each other anything. Sayid adamant it not be opened. Thought Jack wanted the same thing. Says he wanted Jack to help talk Locke out of opening it. Jacks boyhood curiosity shows through. Turn out he is on Locke's side. Did Locke know this when he invited Jack to the hatch? Jack is the only one that stands on the hatch. Sayid no where near it At the end of the scene, Locke gives Jack his creepy smile. Back to Kate and Tom. Presumably in Iowa, not Ohio Tom calls Adam and asks him to help with the MRI. Says specifically, ?carve out some time' Toms son is named Conner. About 22 months old next week. 2 + 2 = 4. death foreshadowing? There was some really cool stuff on side of the refrigerator. There are 7, maybe 8, magnets holding 6 pictures. There are 2 bear magnets, a thing of French fries, a half husked ear of corn, an accordion/piano, pair of cherries, a watch (?), some white circular thing, and a bald eagle. The eagle on is interesting given all the references to birds on the show. Kate's moms' appointment is at 5am, gives the 3 hours to kill. 3 hours and 10 minutes according to clock behind Kate. Makes time about 2 am. Time to dig up the time capsule. Which is buried under an enormous tree Research on large trees in Iowa mentions the cottonwood tree. Bald eagles use this kind of tree for perching and nesting. Iowa state bird is the Eastern Goldfinch as they pull up to tree, three bull cattle walk buy. Kate walks 6 paces to find spot where it is buried. Digging starts. Back to the beach. Locke is questioning Hurley as Jack talks to Mike. Locke uses picks Hurley for dual use? Get info and update on events at the beach? Locke is ?allowed' back on the beach. Does this indicate the beach is Jacks territory and the jungle Locke's? Mike asks Jack if he and Locke have kissed and made up. Jack shakes head ?no'. Mike says ?good'. Does Mike still not trust Locke? Even after he helped save him and Walt from the bear? Locke asks about Mike and Jin getting along. Hurley is a good source of info/gossip Hurley spills the beans on Kate being a fugitive. This is news to Locke. Jack's face winces when the cat is let out of the bag. Obviously been keeping secrets from Locke. Jack uses new ?discretion' angle to justify why he didn't tell everyone. How does Hurley know? This answer for some reason, makes Locke smile that weird smile. Is Jack learning something Locke wants him to learn? Or does he see Jack as some kind of competition? Jack is just as much a liar as he claims Locke is. Hypocritical too. Are Jack and Locke trying to one up each other with the amount of secrets each can keep? Hurley says ?Steve didn't even know about the polar bear'. Is Steve/Scott part of their group and we just haven't been introduced to him formally yet? Claire and Charlie bonding with a haircut. Turnip head in crib Locke made. Charlie invites Claire and baby to stay with him in LA. Title of track 2 on Charlie's new album ?Monster eats the pilot'. There was an odd moment between Jack and Kate when she approaches him at the caves. She asks how Mike is. when she is about to offer her opinion, she calls him ?doctor' instead of Jack. Why? Habit of being on the run for so long? Its then that Jack accuses Kate of poisoning Mike. Does he know it was her idea even though Sun carried it out? I don't think Jack trusts anyone anymore. Notice how some of the relationships that have been developing, are now falling apart as the secrets come out. Tom says how it is ?not fair' Kate is there. Indicates she has been gone a while. Back in Iowa, time capsule is dug up. Lunch box reads ?New Kids on the Block' Inside box is read hat that has big ?W' with the words ?West hills' on it. Town of Hill, Iowa. Rose Hill, Arbor Hill? Is this where Kate is originally from? There is also the plane, belonged to Tom. And a signed baseball (globe reference?), smaller ball next to baseball, random trinkets, and the tape recording they made Kate and Tom 1989 Kate Austin and Tom Brennan are their full names August 15, 1989, or 8-15,1989. another number reference Toms idea to put the plane in the box. Kate says it, tape confirms it. Was Tom on his way to Dallas? You hear ?doesn't want to go to Dallas by himself'. He leaves Kate first? In recording Tom says they will dig the time capsule up in 20 years when they are married with 9 kids. Kate's spirit is to runaway. Fate vs. free will? When they leave there looks to only be 2 bulls left On the beach, Walt approaches Locke. Locke mixing more goop. Walt asks if Locke's injury hurt. Locke quickly answers back ?yep'. Understandable lie. Walt confesses to Locke about the possibility of causing his dads ?problem'. Walt still may see Locke as someone to talk to. After all, Locke seems to know about Walt's ?abilities'. No one else does. Walt really is convinced Locke knows what he's capable of When Locke touches Walt's arm to reassure, Walt pulls it away. Walt ?sees' something. automatically seems to know about the hatch. Asks 3 times for Locke not to open it, Locke responds, Walt asks a forth time Was it the skin to skin contact that brought on this ?vision'? last time Locke touches Walt was on his shirt in the knife throwing lesson in ?Special' What kind of powers does this kid have. Locke seems a little taken back by Walt's statement Jin hanging out with Mike as he gets better. Even pushes Sawyer away when he gets too close. Steve/Scott helping with the raft. Sawyer calls out Kate in front of everyone. Those present are Hurley, Jin, Mike, Claire, Charlie, Shannon, and an extra Flashback to hospital. Kate goes to see her mom. As mom is being brought it, intercom says ?Casey/AC (can't tell which) technicians to coronary care'. This is said twice. Kate's full name is Katherine Austin Interesting link to a comic book character with the same name. Notice the mention of strange animals. Car is in isle 3 again when they go to escape Toms plate reads 394-662 This brings up the issue, where are they? Iowa, Ohio, or somewhere else? All sign point to Iowa but look at Tom's license plate and the car he hits. Tom tries to talk Kate out of escaping; Kate asks him to leave 3 times then guns it. Skill behind the wheel also indicates training of some kind. Cop shoots 3 times. Cop is a State trooper. Can see shield on car as Kate turns. Uniform is brown with gold patches. Maybe this will help locate where Tom lives Tom is now dead. This answers the question about the plane belonging to ?the man she loved, the man she killed'. Is this the same person she confesses to killing while playing ?I never' with Sawyer? After crash, there are 4 items lying on the ground: Signed baseball, plane, tape, and a Minnie Mouse figurine. Is this a reference to Sawyer calling Mike ?Mickey'? The names on the baseball aren't real legible. One looks like it reads ?John Lee'. After Photoshop, the other name reads ?Mandy Yorg-something'. couldn't find anything on either name Plane does not have ?5025' on the wing. Was this sticker just an evidence number placed there? Kate takes none of them. Plane ends up in bank in New Mexico, correct? Kate takes off down the aqueduct. Very smart escape route. Back on the beach, Kate offers a full confession about her history. ?No matter what I say about what happened or what I supposedly did' -Kate. Is Kate a pasty? Going to Jail for a crime she didn't commit? Set up perhaps? She did rob a bank for a plane. Perhaps it was a set up. There are 15 people on the beach when Kate confesses. Sun admits to Jack she poisoned Mike with the intention of poisoning Jin. Why didn't she specifically make sure Jin got the tainted water? Admits she is still in love with him. Doesn't want him to die. Foreshadowing? Jack knew. Tells Sun he will keep her secret. Another secret he will surely keep from Locke. Jack advises Sun to ?say goodbye' Sawyer approaches Kate. Tries not to gloat too much about regaining his spot on the raft. Kate tells him ?goodbye' Kate also asks him if he is going to say ?sorry' ?Sawyer doesn't suit me' is her response. Odd response. He does confess her bluff was good enough to fool him. A veiled compliment. When asked why he wants to leave, he says ?cause there ain't anything on this island worth staying for'. Gives Kate a cold as ice glare. Kate tells Sawyer to ?be safe' Walt confesses to Mike he was the one that burned the raft. Doesn't say how though. Mike is incredibly forgiving. Offers to stay on the island for Walt's sake. Walt slightly shakes his head ?no' when offered. Walt says ?yes we do' in response to the suggestion of them not leaving. Now Walt knows about the hatch, his paradise is ruined. 3 torches behind Kate and Sun. we find out it was Kate's idea and Sun executed it on Jin. Sun and Kate have more in common than we think? That's it. It's a long one I know. I figured since the season is winding down, these last few episodes may have more in them that prior ones. If there is anything anyone could add it would help. I'm sure there are a couple of obvious things I missed.
