Where to start? Ana found the list, and to the best of my memory, said, that it was a list "of us, all of us that were taken" then went on to say that it had names and descriptions as well as what they were wearing (I think?) OK, this has grown into some bigger thoughts for me. Goodwin had made several statements about the barefooters, the list, and those that were taken. He said: -that they were not just ok, they were better off. -that the barefooters had not really attacked -that the barefooters were taking the strongest first, but changed their plans when 2 of them were killed -That Nathan was not on the list because he was "not a good person" Now that last statement would be the one that is really fueling this line of thinking for me. 1) Was Ana on the list? It would seem that the first time they came to take some of the group, Eko was one that was wanted, and would have been on the list. But he fought and killed those that were trying to take him. This stands to reason that if they had found a list then, it would have had Eko on it, even though he was still there. When the barefooters came the second time, we see Ana fight and kill one, but I was not clear if she was being kidnapped or just happen to catch one that was running away. When Goodwin said that about Nathan not being on the list because he wasn't a good person, he seemed to have sort of whispered it in her ear like it was an inside secret. So, here is where my thoughts come in, as unorganized as they are, to try to tie all of this together with what I am thinking. I may not be right, but I will at least try to make sense. If Ana was on the list and the girl that she killed was in self defense, then Ana would be considered a "good person" even though nobody had known each other long enough to have been able to know anything about their character. They had taken a few persons on the first night. So maybe "good" and "bad" are not the only criteria that are set by the others when planning to take survivors. However, it could be said that the first night was only to gather strong helpers and there was no real list, only a plan to grab what looks like the strongest of the group. Could be for helpers, could be to make them more defenseless when they came back for the ones they wanted. Now if this is the case, then that would mean that there was no real list the first time. Now on the other hand, if Ana was not on the list, and Goodwin had indeed been taunting her with the fact that he "knew" she had done something bad and was not a good person, and not on the list...that would lead us in a whole new direction...If the barefooters were only after the strongest on the first night in order to "weaken the herd", then came back for "good" people the next time (when they took the children as well) then it could be said that they had at least some psychic abilities and could tell who was carrying guilt for sins past and who was not. This could explain the taking of children as well as explain why they would not have wanted our middies group......as we have summized many times, they all have something sinful to be guilty about. This brings me back to the second question: Was Claire the only one wanted? Maybe not. If we use the tailies story as an example.. We would first off notice that there were really no "strong" to take on the first night, and what few there were would have been awake and able to fight, or would have been surrounded by those awake and able to fight. (and of our "strong" men and women in the middies, we have murderers and theives.....Ana proved to be quite strong on the first day, but was also shown to be a murderer) Because there was a larger expanse of sand and more distance between the camp and the jungle.. disappearing without leaving a trail to follow would have been more difficult as well. Now I know that I am bad with math and numbers, but I thibnk that the night that Claire was "attacked" would have been about the same time frame as the night that the barefooters came back at the tailies' camp. The "attack" on Claire could be explained as they simply lifed her shirt to make sure they had the right blonde on the list...you know, the pregnant one..since they were able to change clothes and there were several blondes to choose from. Or they could have found the belly and decided not to take her after all. Or, if this was just after the second trip to the tailies' camp, then they could have just been a little more cautious around the larger group (now that they had already lost a few members) and decided that they would just wait it out and catch her alone. Notice this took place at the caves, not on the beach....further into the jungle where they could run away.......and she was taken before she could make it to the beach again. Now, what I would really like to know, is what has changed between about 3 weeks ago to the present that would have made the barefooters stop "attacking"?http://www.livejournal.com/community/pondering_lost/93888.html?style=mine#cutid1 check link for full content and comments
