so we now know that the other group (tailies) are staying in another Dharma bunker. The symbol inside this bunker is different from the one that is inside Swan Station, and different still to the one branded onto the shark. It is obvious that this bunker is not as nice inside as Swan station, at least not the part that we were shown. We also heard Sayid say something about Chyrnoble (sp?) when asked about the concrete that Swan station is surrounded by. We know that as of this week's episode, there was only enough food in the bunker to feed one man for a few more months. Using the things that we have seen and heard so far I wanted to put my thoughts out there. First off, I do not think that the timeline that we have so far supports the theory that the "incident" that turned Swan from a lab to a live-in bunker is the reason for the concrete...plus the fact that it appears that the concrete was placed as the bunker was being built, not afterwards. I think that the concrete was put into place as a barrier for the magnetic fields when it was set up to be a lab. The magnetic fields would have affected the computers, and maybe even affected the scientists' health. The food.....the containers did not look yellowed or dusty like you would expect of food items that had been stored for a long time. If Kelvin's account (and the film) are correct...it would seem that the station would be restocked with each replacement, and there had not been a replacement in at least 3 years. If it was stocked to feed 2 for about a year and a half, then the same food would last one for about 3 years (the length of time that Desmond has been there). If Desmond was running out of food, and there was a recent restocking just before he got there, then that means that Kelvin had not been there long when Desmond came along. That could also account for the new washer and dryer (if they are new) because they would have been in touch with the powers that be in order to replace items that were broken. This does not however explain why the same persons would not have upgraded the computers, unless the food stocks were more of a "drop" from the air. This could explain why Kelvin was away from his post when he found Desmond....he was on the lookout for the next drop. The tailies bunker though looks as if it was never meant to be lived in, only as an emergency shelter (at least from what we have seen). I have a few thoughts, like maybe the two bunkers we have seen were both part of one large underground compound at one time and was sectioned off after the "incident" and that is why the Swan looks so different and was picked to be the living quarters, because that is where the computers already were. It is safe to assume from what we have seen of the film, that there are more bunkers, and since the two that we have seen so far have "back doors" the rest of them most likely do as well. Remember how Ethan was able to move about so easily and appear out of nowhere? We all thought at the time that there may be some sort of underground system that "the others" were using, and that this was also how Claire was taken to and then reappeared out of nowhere. There are a few screen caps floating around of the ones that took Walt that are compared to the Degroots (the ones that started the commune on the island to begin with) They do indeed look like they could be the same people. At first I blew this off, but then I started thinking again about the bunkers and the doors and the way that the others are never seen and seem to appear out of nowhere and the way that Scott/Steve was not heard while he was being tortured and it kind of made sense....the others being the ones that started the commune, they would know the locations of each of the bunkers, and how to get around the island without being seen, and where to hide. This also got me to thinking about the whispers and the translations of the whispers that have been floating around for a while.......could they be a seperate group of others that are in hiding from the bad group of others? Let's say that the Degroots (I think I have that name right) went nuts and started killing off the other members of the commune that did not agree with them and the group split? We would have the killing and kidnapping others, and the whispering others that are hiding from them. Of course the whispers could have been the tailies all along, but the fact that Danielle heard them too (even as far back as when she arrived there) and heard them talking about the boy, I am doubting the second scenario. So there it is. Nothing really fleshed out, and no real answers, just the things that I have been mulling over the last few days.http://www.livejournal.com/community/pondering_lost/87319.html#cutid1
