So far I have seen a lot of focus being put on Eko's encounter with the smoke, and comparisons between Eko and Locke's incounters, and wonderings over if the smoke and the mechanical sounding "security system" are the same thing and so on........but I have yet to see this brought up.
When Eko was face to face with the smoke, Charlie was just above him in the tree, and could look right into the smoke as well......what did Charlie see?
If the smoke simply mirrors what is in the mind/heart/past of the one that looks into it, then Charlie should have seen something too.
The images could have been meant for only Eko, then Charlie would have seen nothing.
But I can not overlook the fact that Charlie and Eko had nothing to say about the smoke afterwards.
Charlie is rather mouthy and should have had a lot of questions "what was that thing?" "what did you see?" "why didn't you run?" something, anything....but he failed to mention anything about it.
