I have read more than my fair share of "Hurley's weight" thoughts and wanted to chime in my thoughts on this. They have been on the island for about 2 months now. Hurley was very large to begin with. Let's keep perspective here: Remember the show Ally McBeal? Well there was a gal on there that was considered the "heavy chick". She was actually quite thin and it was noticable when she appeared in other things, but on the set, she always looked heavy. This was because she was surrounded by size zero girls all the time. Take this to Lost. Hurley is "the fat guy" and since he is surrounded by very thin actors all the time, he will be "the fat guy" for a very long time. It is also reasonable to assume that some of the other actors may very well lose weight too...this will further reenforce the false perception that Hurley has not lost weight. Add to this that the first place that you can tell weight loss in in the face, and Hurley is growing a beard...well you can see where I'm going here. The one and only way that you would have seen a noticable drop in Jorge's size, on TV, in only the 2 month time frame that they have been on the island, would be if he had had surgery. Look at the real life TV personalities that were large and did have surgery...you couldn't REALLY see a difference for several months. Why is everyone expecting faster/more dramatic results for what is supposed to be normal loss that would occur from a restricted diet that still includes "all you can eat"? Yes, we found out that he was hoarding food, but the ammount would not be enough to make a real difference anyway....except that it has seemed to have pacified all of the whining for a while.http://community.livejournal.com/pondering_lost/100292.html
