"It can be a giant jigsaw puzzle for the viewer who likes to figure things out. When the series is done, you will find that each episode has been layered with deliberate clues to answer several things. In each hour, you will find that there is at least one clue towards the solution of the island mystery (which, by the way, you won't have completely answered until the last show of the series), one clue toward the character connections, and one clue toward past island mysteries. Sometimes, there are more, but one per hour is mandatory. The star shots are a clue toward the overall island mystery. Stanton, you're smart to be looking at all of the zodiacs.Often, the important stuff is written into scenes and dialog so that you're looking in one direction when they give you the clue that you were trying to watch for. The Kate and Claire scene was one of those. The clue was simple, and subcontext. Claire says something. Kate reacts. It's a clue toward "why these people". Kind of did the same thing with the Claire and psychic thing. Everyone heard "EVIL BABY" and missed what was really important. "Why these people?".
