I think Danielle is exactly who she said she is. She is Alex's mother and she killed her party. She is not an "other" and has never been associated with them. Alex is Ben's daughter by "adoption" - i.e., after the others abducted Alex from Danielle, Ben took her in as his daughter. There is nothing sinister about Danielle, she is simply a bit crazy from loosing her team, her daughter and being alone for 16 years. The others obviously know about her because they took her daughter from her, but that doesn't mean that she knows anything about them. How did she go for 16 years without running into them on the same island? She didn't - she set traps (actually caught Ben in one remember) and the only previous captive that she caught in one (aside from the occasional boar was Sayid)... She interrogated Sayid (her first contact with someone for 16 years), and turned Ben over to Sayid.

I'm not quite sure what I think of Danielle anymore. For someone who has spent 16 years on this island, she hasn't come across any of the things our Losties have in less than 80 days? Ok, maybe our Losties are just bolder and dumber, but still....
What has she been doing the last 16 years? We know she's been setting traps and "avoiding" encounters, but just what is she doing? Is she searching for Alex? Is she searching for a way to leave? Is she searching for answers? Or is she just eating boar and mangos and watching lovely sunsets every evening?
Just seems odd to me.
I'd like to go back and gather all the Danielle conversations/info we have so far, read thru it all in one uninterupted shot....see what my thoughts are then. Hmm.

Let me know what you figure out. I'm just not sure that I buy into her being involved in some great conspiracy. Or that she is devious - crazy but not devious.

I started working on my Danielle project, got thru the first season, then got distracted and never went back to it. *sigh*
Anyway, after this week's One Of Us episode, my hubby had an interesting point. With all the talk we heard about the pregnant women dying.....what about Danielle?? Some people I've mentioned this to have shrugged it off as "she was pregnant before she got to the island." Perhaps. But they had no interest in her, just wanted her baby?
A guy at work added another good point to this...."Wasn't Ben born on the island?" So where is his mother? Was she pregnant with him before arriving on the island?

I mentioned Ben in another response to you.... Ben's mother being pregnant before she got to the island is a good speculation. I think that the problem may be at conception. Didn't Juliet say something about that? And, we know that the problem with Claire was implanted by the others - she had no problem until they triggered it - it was all for show. Let's hope that Sun got pregnant before they arrived and not after.
Chapter 1 - Mar 13, 2005 06:50 PM
It began with a hug.
Just a sudden gesture of gratitude. But as Hurley trudged back through the jungle to the cave camp, he realized that the French woman was hard to forget.
"What's up, Hurley?" Charlie asked, noticing his friend's pensive mood.
"Nothing. Just thinking." Hugo Reyes was not a man to be made fun of. His months in the institution had taught him that sometimes answers couldn't be found by talking.
Charlie bobbed his head. "I know, I know. But don't blame yourself for my near death on the bridge, mate. Sure it wasn't your fault."
Hurley stopped to stare at the Rock Star. "It WASN'T my fault, Charlie."
Charlie raised his eyebrows in innocence. "That's what I said! Not your fault that you went first and it was too much for the bridge ---."
Hurley turned on his heel, and headed toward the beach camp. He had to think, and it was obvious that that wasn't going to happen at the Caves.
Halfway to the beach, Hurley found Locke skinning a boar next to the path.
Locke looked up, his extra knife clenched between his teeth. He removed it slowly with hands that were red with blood.
"Hey Hurley. You guys get back already?" Locke pulled the skin slowly down the dead animal.
"Yeah. Just now. Everybody else is still at the Caves."
Locke nodded, cutting around the end or each leg. "Good to know. So how was Rousseau?"
Hurley shrugged casually, although he had thought of little else since he had left her. "She's --- good. You know."
Locke stopped skinning to stare at him. "No. I guess I don't know. Everything OK?"
Hurley shrugged again, then sat down next to the hunter. "She was, sort of wild looking, but pretty. She was smart."
Locke nodded. "Deadly combination, pretty and smart."
Hurley let his breath out in a gasp. "Dude, you don't even know ---."
The two men fell into silence.
"So she sounds like your type, Hurley." Locke said at last. "Why didn't you stay awhile?"
Hurley looked at the ground, while asking himself exactly the same question. "She's a little older, not that that bothers me, but I was sort of chaperoned by half the camp at the time."
Locke wiped his face, smearing blood across his forehead. He grinned at the young man beside him. "You'd be alone now."
Hurley's eyebrows shot up as his gaze lifted to meet the hunter's. "What? You mean now?" Hurley gulped convulsively. "I --- I, like, just got back and all, and ---."
Now it was Locke who shrugged casually. "No time like the present. I'll cover for you. Tell the others you're doing me a favor. You could be at her neck of the jungle by dark."
Hurley stared at the ground between his feet. "What if I'm not her type?" He said finally.
Locke grinned. "Great thing about falling for a woman who's been alone on a deserted island for 16 years? She tends to like the company no matter what. Look, Hurley, you aren't asking her to move in! You're just visiting a pretty, smart neighbor."
Hurley grinned back. "You're right." It felt as if a weight had been lifted from his shoulders.
Hurley began to run down the path back the way he had come, then stopped and ran back to Locke, who had put the knife back between his teeth and was starting on the second leg, hugging him as Hurley had done with Danielle only hours before.
Locke, shocked, began to laugh. "Might want to warn a guy when you're going to do that! I almost swallowed my Helen!"
But Hurley was already gone, already out of hearing range.
Danielle was lighting the candles in her grotto cavern. The silence, as always, was deafening.
Sixteen years, she thought, and soon it would be seventeen.
The French woman sighed. There had been a time in her busy life when solitude had been a luxery. The handsome young man named Hurley who had held her briefly today ---talked with her --- had only reminded her of all that she had lost.
How odd. When Sayid had left after several days with her, she had not felt this same loss as she did with Hurley's absence.
Suddenly, there was a sound from the entrance to her cavern.
"Uh, Knock Knock!" A voice called loudly. "Uh, Danielle? That you?"
Danielle pulled her long hair back from her face, and rubbed her cheeks to erase any soot or dirt. Could it be?
"Come in, Cherie!" She called, and Hurley came into the cave.
In his hand he carried a bouquet of Bird of Paradise and Hibiscus. His hair was smoothed back, and somewhere, he had found a suit coat to put over his T-shirt and shorts. He stood for a moment, and they stared shyly at each other.
"These are for you." Hurley said in a rush, putting the bouquet into her hands.
There Brax. A romance is born.
(Please forgive typos. I am old and drugged. Can you tell?)
Chapter 2 - Mar 18, 2005 11:00 AMAda wrote this days ago, but I haven't had time to post it for her.
Danielle sighed, and nestled her head into Hurley's strong shoulder. "I am so pleased that you come back, cherie. How did you kn---," Danielle stammered into shy silence.
Hurley tipped his head to stare at her. "How did I --- what?"
Danielle waved her hand, as if dismissing the thought she had had.
Hurley shook his head. "Nope. This relationship is based on honesty. How did I what?"
Danielle smiled at the handsome young man. "How did you know that I missed you?"
Hurley laughed, a deep, rolling rumble. "You've been alone for sixteen years, Dani. You'd miss the tax man after that long!"
Danielle joined him, giggling softly. But what now? You will want to return to your friends, and I --- I can't leave here."
Hurley sat up, pulling away from her. In the trees nearby, a flock of birds flew up, startled by the sudden movment. "Why can't you leave here?" He asked, confused.
Danielle shurgged, her gaze dropping away. "I have my reasons."
Hurley lifted her chin, and held her eyes with his own. "It's you and me now, Dani. And do we have to have the honestly conversation again this fast? I don't care what it is, you can tell me. Why can't you leave?"
Danielle turned her face away, and out of Hurley's hand. She let her head drop into her hands. "There is so much that you don't know, Hugo." Her accent lilted across his name, and it sent shivers through him. "There is so much danger that you have not seen here."
Hurley nodded, but didn't turn away. "I think I get that. We've see a lot of things here that either don't add up, or add up to something that just ain't right. Go ahead, Dani, I can take it. I've seen a lot in my life, and whatever is going on around here, I'd rather face it than run. And if it involves you, running isn't an option anymore."
Danielle's face turned back toward Hurley. Tears shone on her cheeks. "They are coming, Hugo. I knew that they would! They will be here soon."
Who is coming? Friend or foe? What can Hurley do to help Danielle? And why does she insist on staying? What will the next chapter of "Hurley and Danielle" bring? Tune in next time and find out!

As far as the dynamite goes, I think she needs it to help her get Alex back. Aside from that, I'm stumped, but I think it will play out in the finale that the Losties are being overrun until Danielle steps in and turns the tide.
