Like I stated before, no one is all evil or all good. Ana (like Sawyer and Jin before her) are starting out looking really bad - beating up poor Sawyer.... But, when the flashbacks show what the tailenders went through up to the point where we meet her in Season 2, then we will find that her tuff girl attitude is based on necessity and not her normal personality. When people are put in a situation where their lives are in danger, they tend to take expedient and what may seem to be extreme actions to continue to survive. Sawyer was being rebelious in the face of authority - Ana didn't have the time to have a campfire moment and be all girly to get the point across. Sawyer was hit on both occasions involving a weapon or a possible weapon. Sawyer had already threatened to kill one of her fellow survivors (before she took the gun away by force), and was holding something that he refused to divulge when she hit him the second time. When he was in the pit and refused to get out, he was being rebellious and she put him in his place. Hard times call for hard measures.So, at the end of the season, we will probably be seeing her in a completely different light. Remember, Sawyer was not well liked until everyone learned that he was forced to be like he was. He was/is a con-man who slept with married women to get their money,the killer of an innocent man and even as late as a couple of episodes ago was telling Michael that he would have back handed Walt if he was Walt's father.... Yet, people understand why he is like he is and are willing to overlook that. Ana is disliked because she licked her fingers and was too forward to Jack at the airport bar and for being a tuff girl now and because she is competition to Kate and that throws off the whole Kate/Jack thing. Now we will probably have a Kate/Jack/Ana/Sawyer quadrangle going on....
